Q: Unhappy customer

Hi,

About 6 months ago i bought my first ever macbook pro, i was stoked! however i was sadly disappointed.  Here are a list of problems i have encounter.

  • The temperature of my Macbook gets extremely hot simply by searching the internet.
  • Battery life at a max is only 3-4 hours of searching the internet and pages.
  • Freezing technical issues where the computer runs slow for periods of time.
  • Imovie is hard to save videos, also wastes battery extremely quickly and overheats almost instantly.

My Mac is a 2012 model and has a 2.9GHz itel core i7, OS X 10.9.4, 8Gb of RAM.

Does anybody have the same problems as me, i am extremely disappointed i thought it would run a lot better than this. The fan is not in an ideal position either being under the screen, this in my opinion doesn't allow for great ventilation. Don't get me wrong it is a good computer, but there are various things as i said that can make the computer ALOT better.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), iOS 7.1.2, 8gb RAM

Identify the process or processes that are burdening your Mac: Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

    Also:

Capture a screenshot (see below) of Activity Monitor with the CPU tab selected, and the CPU column sorted in descending order. Select View > All Processes. Make the window sufficiently large.

I'm looking for something resembling the following:

    Screen Shot 2014-07-12 at 1.41.24 PM.png

For more about Activity Monitor read:

OS X Mavericks: About Activity Monitor

    Screenshots (Mac):

To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse or trackpad. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot named "Screen Shot...." followed by a date and time on your Desktop.

When you post your response, click the "camera" icon above the text field:

    ccc1d9a6bbfa2bcd11f062bbf381272e.png

This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button. If you are not using full screen mode you can simply drag the image into the text entry field.

⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.

⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.

Don't capture or upload any information you consider personal. To edit an existing screenshot, read How to edit a screenshot.

Drag the screenshot to the Trash after you post your reply.

Check the article below for details on terminating the "systemstats" process.

    1. Reset the SMC. See below. Read and follow all the steps, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.
    2. Don't obtain software from any source other than those authorized by their developers.
    3. Did you contact AppleCare about this?

    Before Resetting the SMC

Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.

    1. Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
    2. Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
    3. Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
    4. Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.

Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
    3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. The power adapter indicator light may cycle off / on once.
    4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
