Backup will not restore due to server error?

I backed up my old iPhone 5 to the cloud and apparently from what Apple tells me that my manual backup yesterday was not complete. I then selected an Aug 30th backup and every time I try to restore, about 2 -3 mins in I get a message "Cannot Restore Backup Your iPhone cannot be restored because of server error". I looked at system check and nothing is mentioned. It began with tech support in the Apple Store, they tried downloading to another device & it did not work so it is not the device. It continued at home with tech support on the phone & they just have me keep trying with the same results. I have been connected to 3 different Wi-Fi networks & I am plugged in. Support doesn't seem to do anything to help me & now I am freaking out that I have lost all my photos and data!!! Please Help!!!

If the information that they seem to have provided to you is correct that your backup was not complete, then it is what it is. Backup in icloud is an image file and if it is not complete it is unable to be restored. Nobody will be able to help you that time, but in the future, I would advise to backup in itunes as well, so you do not depend on incomplete backup anymore. Sorry.

I am having the same issue as stated above however I have
years of experience with iCloud backups and restores as I manage an account of
30 iPhones and constantly need to swap and replace broken phones as well as
just plain old upgrades.

Here is my scenario:

I have two phones that backup to the same cloud account.

1st phones backup is 2.7G

2nd phones backup is 430M

I have two separate wifi networks, each with a different
ISP, both networks have been restoring iPhones for years with no issues, plus
my home network and ISP, so that's three networks I have actually tried.

I have four iPhone4 and two iPhone5 that I have tried
restoring from a backup, all have the same result as stated above.

Here's the monkey wrench:

The 430M restore works fine on all phones and all networks,
the 2.7G is the one that errors out every time on all phones and all networks,
no matter which backup I choose.

Also this issue started sometime between 8-29 and 9-2, right
around the time this whole celeb cloud hack happened.

For the first time ever I called Apple support and was told I need to restore to an active phone, active meaning with cell service.

Well we all know that is just not true and they had no answer to give me to explain the issue.

Any more thoughts??

OK so with that said, I’m assuming you simply deleted the
backup and let it back itself up from scratch again?

No, I didn't. I contacted icloud engineering through apple support and they were unable to help. Spent few weeks - thinking they may help. And then yes, I realized that backup info is lost.

I’m also assuming that Apple does incremental backups instead of overwriting the
file image each time, since that past few backups wouldn't restore?

You assumption may or may not be correct - I do not have any contact with apple developers to confirm, but there is no point in that assumption, cause first and original backup (if you are referring to OP situation) never completed in all of those cases. When first backup is incomplete and system is getting interrupted during following backup attempts - image file was never created properly. If in your particular situation you can restore from backup number 2 or 3 - your real loss is minimal.
