Q: what is the best way to get rid of malware etc...

I have been downloading from **** sites (yea I know its a user fault) and now computer is running slow, glitches, lags with browser ...how can I clean out my computer of malware etc..

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)
