Whenever I open up Photo Booth, the screen turns black and I get a message that says "there is no connected camera", what do I do to connect the camera?

That may depend upon what Mac OS X version you are using in your MBA.

Start with the suggestions in Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090. Be sure to test more than one Apple camera-enabled application in more than one user account.  If none of them work, the "reset" suggested there often restores normal camera function.

(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD." Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

If you are still having trouble, applying the latest Combo Update for your Mac OS X version may get your camera working again.

    Hi

I'm having a similar problem to Julia above, with my Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.4). Skype, FaceTime and Photo Booth all reporting that no camera is connected.

I've followed the steps suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090.

Step 3) is "Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight." When I check, "FaceTime HD Camera" IS showing up in the USB Device Tree (at Applications > Utilities > System Information > Hardware > USB).

So do I not need to move Step 4 (the PMU reset)?  What can I try now that I've established (I think) that the computer is detecting the camera (but the above applications aren't)?

    Wrong.

The rest of the Troubleshooting suggestions (including Step 4) until you find one that fixes your problem.

You can also try OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).  If needed, you can also try Reinstalling OS X 10.9.
