On startup, I hear 3 short beeps followed by 3 long beeps followed by 3 short beeps, then nothing. Screen remains black the whole time. Tried to boot holding down option key - nothing. 2010 MacBookPro running Snow Leopard. Any suggestions?

Voodoo, again. Turned off, unplugged everything, let sit overnight, plugged everything back in this morning, and it started right up and completed installation of update. Would still like to know what 3 short beeps, 3 long beeps, then 3 short beeps means ...

I would highly recommend that you run the Apple Hardware Test, you may be looking at impending hardware failure. I've seen posts where the beeping is permanent and the computer can't be started up, I think you're fortunate that it's running now. A backup would be a very good idea

The #2 installation disk has the Apple Hardware Test on it. Look for the instructions printed on the disk.
