Q: Icloud Account Name change mix up for iphone 4S

Hi,

I think I have mixed up and created two Apple Ids and I dont know how to change everything back.

I can access my icloud account using my XXX@gmail.com as login name (recently created) but can only see calendar contacts , no photos or videos).. My itunes and App store works off the same gmail login and password.

However, under Settings, Iclould, the Account shows an XXX@ireland.com login name - this is the login name I would like to change to my gmail login,

However, this ireland.com email account has been disabled, I have no idea of what the password is and when I logged onto I forgot, the security question didnt recognise my date of birth (using both the European and US date types where day and month could be mixed up ?)  and the second option to get an email notification didnt work as I assume the new email was redirected to a now disabled email account.

I tried deleting the icloud account under Settings, Icloud, Delete Account but I am prompted for a password for my Apple Id XXX@ireland.com and I dont know that password. How can I get the Apple ID XXX@ireland.com to redirect emails to either my gmail account or indeed my icloud email account.

Another Q : When I back up my phone and complete the icloud back up, I assume all that data is stored under my Apple ID ireland.com login ? as thats the Account listed under Settings / Account ?

thanks,

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1

If this old AppleID was simply updated to your current AppleID, delete the account in  Settings > iCloud and use your current password.

If this does not work, go to https://appleid.apple.com/, log in with your current AppleID, change it back to the old AppleID (don't send verification email) & save it (don't log out).

Then delete the iCloud on your iPhone.

Then update your AppleID back to the new AppleID and sign back in to iCloud.

    Hi Chris,

    Many thanks for your reply.

Option 1     Had already tried this and failed.

Option 2     As per your suggestion, I logged in using current Apple ID, changed Apple ID to old Apple Id but it wouldn't allow me to Save as it was not an active email account ( or at least I assume that's why not). Good suggestion though.

Any other suggestions on a work around ?

    thanks,

No, that's not why it would not allow you to save it.

Is this a new AppleID account or do you update you previous AppleID account?

What I wanted to do was to replace one ID with the gmail ID but I may have created two. Now I cant delete the old one as I dont know the password. I also noticed that I cannot buy extra storage on my phone as its prompting me for the Ireland.com ID password which I dont have.

I followed the steps below however...Change your Apple ID temporarily

Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.

      • Enter the password for your previous Apple ID- i dont know what that password is ?

Try using the password for your current AppleID.

If that does not work, contact AppleID support.

You can't rename an account (Apple ID) to a name or E-Mail that is already in used by a different Apple ID.

    You can't combine them either.

There is no problem with using a different Apple ID for those or even using a 3rd for FaceTime and or a 4th for iMessage.

except that you then have 3 or 4 different AppleID's to worry about

If you have actually created a new AppleID account  (instead of just updating old account) , you can recover your old AppleID password here
