We require that QT and Safari play MIDI files, as music educators and software developers. Why does Apple refuse to support our needs? MIDI is NOT an obsolete protocol!

In universities around the world, MIDI files are used by music students and educators in all music technology applications. In private studios, large and small, professionals use the MIDI protocol in their daily work. Apple has made a horrible mistake in removing the capability to play MIDI files in current versions of QuickTime and Safari. MIDI is NOT an obsolete protocol!

We require that QT and Safari play MIDI files, as music educators and software developers, or we are forced to us a platform that works. Why does Apple refuse to support our needs?

QuickTime Player 7 can still play MIDI files so all you need to do is download them from the Web page.

You beat me to it again...😊

Browser support for the format has ended as the HTML 5 standards are being implemented and plug-ins won't be needed.

However, for those Mountain Lion and Mavericks users who simply MUST have the ability to play MIDI files in Safari there is the ability to create a dedicated MIDI plug-in as explained in this article:

It is not a question of whether the Safari users "MUST" have this function, or "MUST" have that function. Rather, it is whether APPLE is concerned enough about their customers to not inconvenience them over this matter and waste more of their time jumping through hoops to play back a midi file from their browser.

That's not really a good long(er) term solution is its? Should we be asking for a scriptable 64-bit version of the QuickTime Music Synthesizer and use with the Web Audio API or HTML5 audio tag? No QT 7 or QT plugin needed.
