I just bought a new Samsung 22" monitor. The text resolution is really bad. After talking to Samsung, I found that the needed resolution is higher then what my Mini-Mac shows available. Can this be fixed or do I return the monitor?

computer is 2 years old, have no idea what native resolution is, only connection available is standard monitor cable

What specific monitor? Model number?
Macs can display far higher resolutions than 1366x768, something is wrong but it could be the monitor, the connection or the Mac, how are you connecting this, please don't say standard monitor cable, there is no such thing.
The later Mini's can easily display 1920x1200
You can try one of these if necessary to get specific resolutions not available natively on the Mini

You mean the Thunderbolt port.
before we go any further; I should have stated that my computer knowledge is EXTREMELY limited and many of the terms being thrown at me are completely baffeling. My monitor is Samsung model :S22D300 and is connected to my computer with the D-SUB cable supplied with that model connected thru an Apple adaptor identified by the characters:PC,some symbol with an X thru it,check mark in a circle,CE,ending with the letter v and what looks like the copywright symbol both enclosed within a tv screen shaped box. Hopefully this can help.
As far as I can tell VGA is the only input (D-Sub) so take it back and get a more modern monitor, one that supports digital inputs, this is no longer 1998.
Frankly I would not pay $20 for a monitor such a minimal specification.
