ApplicationsHi,
OS X 10.10.2 does include the Security Update 2015-001
This has been issued as a Standalone for Mavericks and Mountain Lion as well.
You may need to contact Apple Support and say there is an issue with your Apple ID you use with iMessages.
You do not need Apple Care to do this and it is also not a Software or hardware issue like the Level 1 people try to fit it to (they are very Script led). Ask to speak to a Level 2 person and persuade them to check the Apple ID at the iMessages server regarding to Mac.

Feb 4, 2015 1:07 PM in response to Ralph Johns (UK)by julianporter5,So do I leave it at 10.10.1 and do the security update then wait for them to fix the imessage issue.
10.10.1 worked before so it should be possible to get back to a working state.
Do I really want to embark on getting 10.10.2 to work?
Thoughts?

ApplicationsHi,
Whilst the OS is at 10.10.1 or can be put back there it is not clear from other posts that this "Undoes" what was changed - which might be related to the Security Update part.
I have OS X 10.10.2 running without any problems but I can't tell you what is different about my set up.
However I do tend to run Repair Permissions in the Disk Utility on the Mac (Applications/Utilities) as a matter of course after each Update.

Feb 5, 2015 5:09 PM in response to eh0608by robwired,I've been having this issue on my Mac for about a month on and off.
None of the fixes in this thread helped.
I've signed out and back into iCloud and separately out and into iMessage. I restarted with Command-R and verified and repaired disk permissions.
Even created a new User account to test with and same problem there.
iMessage works fine on my MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad.
I just got off the phone with a Level two rep who is going to get back to me on Monday. He originally thought it might have to do with Keychain, will post again on Monday to let others know if this gets resolved.
FYI, there wasn't any fix on the iMessages server he could do. Sometimes people have their iMessage account locked, but that wasn't the case with me. Maybe that's what fixed it for others.

Feb 5, 2015 11:05 PM in response to robwiredby nelman12,This problem started to happen out of nowhere. I have been on the phone with Apple care and a senior advisers. I have been dealing with this for 48 hours. I have done everything from sign out of iCloud - to resetting PRAM - dumping the plists. etc etc -- straight to wiping my hard drive clean and reinstalling yosmite and having to back up all my info. IT STILL DOES NOT WORK. as a side bar - I have made a TEST admin account and logged into my wife's messages and hers on same computer had no issues. I have done every step - it has to be something in the latest release and I just wish they would say that. I fear until Apple creates a patch, messages on my LAPTOP will simply not work as every contact i have is not registered with iMessage - even though they all were 4-5 days ago!!!!
HELP!!

Feb 6, 2015 11:38 AM in response to robwiredby Ralph Johns (UK),Hi,
If the issues continues across all Mac Users on your Mac then the most likely scenarios are:-
The Mac Serial Number is missing. This is used to create a valid IDS: AppleID@iDserver.com-Auth Token
The iMessages server is not recognising the Auth token for your Mac (no matter which Mac User Account). This is the Most likely.
Or there IS something wrong with the app.

Feb 7, 2015 8:00 AM in response to Ralph Johns (UK)by rjbme,Feel obligated to provide an update. I spent almost two hours on the phone with AppleCare and got elevated to Level 2 support. We did all sorts of logging in and out and resetting of settings, etc. and nothing seemed to work. Unfortunately, due to the amount of time I was on the phone, I had to go to another obligation and had to cut the call short. The AppleCare rep said he would continue to look into it and the next day everything started to work again. Not sure it it was all the steps I took on the phone with AppleCare that helped or if it was something that the rep. did offline after our call (resetting my ID or something) but whatever it was, I am now able to send and receive imessages to/from my iPhone, Mac and iPad; AND they all stay in sync. It's glorious! (Maybe a bit hyperbolic but it's nice to have it working again and it seems to have just restarted just as it stopped working.)

Feb 7, 2015 8:28 AM in response to rjbmeby nelman12,I was on the phone again yesterday with a level 2 advisor going over a multitude of things. No luck, they have to send it to engineering.
I will know more come Wednesday. I keep asking the techs if they know about re-setting the apple id at the messages server and no one seems to know what I'm talking about or that that is possible. Not sure what Ralph knows (or if that is ultimately what the engineers will do) but I am still a non functioning messages.
ONLY on my LAPTOP
Happy for you though

Feb 7, 2015 11:35 AM in response to nelman12by Ralph Johns (UK),Hi,
There is this error Messages that some people have seen thought out Messages versions
We (the regular posters) have become aware that Level 1 people at Apple Support can be Script led, try to force everything into Software or Hardware issues. (they can charge or use Apple Care for these where as Account issues are free to fix)
However if you ask for Level 2 person most do seem aware of the issue with the actual pop up and Code number.
(Presumably the Customer Code is Mac/Apple ID specific)
Those who have taken the time to report back on this say the person said they reset the Apple ID at the iMessages Servers.
It is my belief that there are related silent failures (no big error messages pop up) of the Login that shows in series of related issues - "Not Delivered" messages, failure to Send and similar issues.
Since the similarities showed up in later version of Messages the regular Posters have tried various things that have proved unsuccessful.
As the conclusion is that the issues are related I have been suggesting that people ask Apple Support to check.
The issue with that is without the Customer error Code number they seems to want to jump you through the same hoops as the Level one people would have you do.
there might well be a case for Engineering to check whether they are related and that Messages should show a different pop up ...

Feb 12, 2015 9:05 AM in response to Ralph Johns (UK)by groove-agent,I have the same problem as well. I've tried everything. I can't believe Apple can't figure this out.
I believe this to be on the server side of iCloud. In my case, I had iMessage running on two Macs. When I looked at the settings on iCloud.com on my phone, it said that my other computer was a registered Mac with iMessage and not the one i'm currently using. I logged out on the other computer and my phone shows NO computer registered with iMessage, but iCloud.com still shows my both computers there.
What I think is happening is I'm trying to send messages from a computer that is not properly registered with my iMessage/iCloud account - it won't let me send therefore all the addresses turn red. I think iMessage/iCloud service still thinks my other computer is the Mac that is authorized to send. This suggests that only one Mac computer can be authorized. Because I authorized two, it has screwed everything up.

Feb 12, 2015 9:14 AM in response to groove-agentby nelman12,As an update - the issue has been moving up the chain at the corporate level. it's been over a week since my first claim with no fix. But I got a call from Apple yesterday asking me questions about my contacts and setup etc. It's still not fixed but they are going to get back to me. At least I know we are not crazy - they are aware of this issue and they are working on it. and there is nothing we can do on our end - so stop the madness in trying. I'll update you all when I know more.

Applicationshi,
Can I be clear ?
iMessages might use an Apple ID that is the iCloud one.
At that point it is it.
Most apps can check a password via a central point but that is as close as it gets.
The iMessages Servers are separate from the iCloud ones the FaceTime ones, the Games Center and iTunes ones and so on including the iCloud servers.
If on the computer you go to System Preferences > iCloud there is no setting for iMessages or even the Messages app in general. (nor FaceTime. iTunes or any of the others) It is only concerned with Logging in iCloud and the items that you can sync via that log in.
As I posted above there is one instant when the app will give an error messages which gives you a unique code to tell Apple Support.
This is enough for them to check your Mac's Login details at the iMessages server. (it s device specific)
It would seem that the silent fails that people get after it appears to be logged in, where there is no error Messages or code number means that the Apple Support people seem reluctant to check the iMessages servers.
This may be because it is like looking for a needle in a haystack.
It seems when they do check it is on a one by one basis whereas there seems to be at least a significant number of people affected who require it to be fixed on a sort of global level.
There are some reports by posters that it has been bumped to Engineering.

Feb 12, 2015 2:21 PM in response to Ralph Johns (UK)by FreeBSD124,Tried that; didn't work
iMessage worked last sunday; problems started on monday and is still ongoing.
live in the Netherlands and tried from every angle to get it working.
Its got to be a server problem, because on my iphone it works.
It really baffles me

ApplicationsHi,
I read most of the Posts about iChat and Messages across the iChat, Mavericks and Yosemite Communities as Apple calls them.
It has become obvious that the Apple ID can fail to log in and that it is device specific. That is to say it will be that Mac and That Apple ID.
The Apple ID will keep working on other Macs and iOS devices without problems.
The only way I know to "fix" it is to convince Apple Support to Look at the iMessages Servers and your Mac's use of the Apple ID.
This can be difficult without the related Error Messages I re-posted on the 7th Feb higher up this Thread.
