Also, I noticed that my contacts on my MacBook are not synching, no matter what I do.

    Hi,

Despite Apple owing the  Site and providing Hosts (Moderator) staff and some "Community Specialists" they rarely read the Threads for issues.

Sometimes some issues will get noticed and an Apple Doc set up with what is thought to be the fix (in most cases that was also discovered on the boards by trial and error) such as this one FaceTime, Game Center, Messages: Troubleshooting sign in issues

In the case of this error the Regular Posters have been running through a gambit of ideas with people who have posted about the problem.

After one person did a Clean Install (Erased the Drive and created a new Mac User Account without migrating from a Backup) and set up the iMessages account in the Messages app that way it become clear the issue is either the Mac Serial Number which is used for  an Auth Token in the Keychain or something about the Account on the iMessages server.

Based on that info I have Sent Feedback (and suggest other people do as well)

And I posted in the Lounge (where Level 6 Posters and Above can post) and reported the problem in that hope that two routes are better than one.

It really doesn't matter how much you love Pete, pleading here does very little.

    Hi mariofromfranklin,

On both the Mac and th iPhone the System Preferences > iCloud or the settings > iCloud  are both set to sync the Contacts app ?

I would try Signing Out of iCloud on the Mac and then signing in again.

I would also toggle the Contacts option in iCloud Off and then On again.

I have several friends who I text often from my MBP (they're all iPhone users), and all of a sudden, their names/phone numbers turned to RED and I get the dreaded message that they're not registered!  I've read through all responses on this thread and tried all suggested remedies, but found only one thing that worked...PRAM/NVRAM reset.  THANKS RALPH for your suggestions and tips : - )

It worked for me too, all of a sudden, thanks thegarman! I followed these steps, OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM and when I restarted, I suddenly received all iMessages from one month... still not sure why my iPad's iMessage was not working for some time, but it is working again too since a week, so for me, my iMessage problem is solved!

I reset my PRAM on my MBP, but no change. Then again, I did not really expect a change since this involves multiple devices not working...

    HI,

In a couple of other threads posters are reporting that it has spontaneously worked for them without doing anything.

The PRAM reset used to work back awhile.

It might now be the thing to reset the Mac end with some users.

    Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the tips.  I have read through this entire post with no prevail.  I have tried everything except for calling Apple themselves.  My iMessage stopped working on September 4th.  My iPhone 5 runs it just fine, of course...

    Hi,

If it works on your iPhone then essentially there is nothing wrong in that sense with the Apple ID.

If you have then tried  everything on your Mac, AppleGothic.ttf Font, Serial Number, Set up items  then is issue will appear to be with the iMessages Server and the way it is dealing with the "registration" of the Mac.

This does make it an Account issue but it only effects the iMessages server when logging in from the Mac.

You have to make it clear you have an Account issue when you phone up or they will try to say it is either Software or Hardware and try and charge you for out of Warranty calls.

And now, all of the sudden, it works. I didn't do anything and it is rolling just fine.

    Hi,

If, and it is a big if, enough people have reported this via Feedback and the fact the  issue has been raised with the Hosts may mean we have reached critical mass as it were and some engineers have looked at this.

It may be that the server have just reset themselves in the normal course of things (although less likely)

Lets hope it is an Apple intervention and that it is a permanent fix.

    Thanks for letting us know.

Quick question.  When it suddenly started working, were you signed in via the Messages app?  Also, was the app quit and then reopened when you discovered it started working, or was the app active and just magically started working?  And was your computer asleep or off or restarted or anything?  Sorry about all of the questions, but I would just like to know.  Thanks a bunch!

I have a MBP and an iMac (and my iPhone). I am always signed in to all of them and before last month it worked flawlessly. Then it didn't.

    Then it did, as above.

Then last night it stopped working. No error message this time. Just fails to send messages on my MBP and iMac. I get the little red ! badge next to each failed message.

Just gave things a try this evening and interestingly enough I can send messages to myself now. iMessage recognizes that my phone number is registered with iMessage and my message goes through. It appears it only works for sending messages to myself though. Progress though!

I had never thought to try to send an imessage to myself. I just did, using my MBP, and it worked, but the message did not show up on my phone. But it did show up on both the sending and receiving side of the window on my computer, so it technically sent. This just makes me even more confused. Some people here have posted that it spontaneously started working on their computers, but it never did on mine, so it wasn't a universal thing. Just hoping to get it figured out sometime.
