Q: I can't upgrade to Maverick! Help!

I have a MacBook Pro, running on Snow Leopard OS X 6.8. I have almost 1T of space on the HD, and the Memory is at 4GB. why can't I upgrade? How can I find out what year my Mac was built? I got it from a friend, so i have no idea when he bought it. Any suggestions?

iPhone 4S, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Mac book pro, itunes, lost contacts

Go to  > About This Mac > More Info, and you can find the serial number there. Enter it at http://selfsolve.apple.com, and it should tell you what year it's from.

Check the requirements for Mavericks here: http://apple.com/osx/specs.

    Upgrading to Mavericks

You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

    Upgrading to Mavericks

To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
