Why is there a picture of an eye in the background?

My cousin has a macbook from school and brought it to my house today. I noticed an image of an eye in the background. And when I say in the background it's like a watermark. It's there when the computer is first starting up and you can see it when he uses a web browser. Although, it does not appear on the desktop background. I think that's cause he put a picture on there. Here is a screenshot of what it looks like in the web browser. You can see it behind the Google and search box in the middle. Anyone ever heard of this? It's kinda freaky.

thanks, Meg

There appears to be a screen distortion across any image background.

You can make a screenshot by using shift+command+4 to get an image.

Then use the camera icon in the post screen. to add it to your reply...😐

PS: have you looked at a white desktop with no other background to

see if this odd pattern is in the browser, or in the display?

In order to see it I have to tilt his screen or make it a little dimmer, but I can see it in the screenshots I posted. It's white and black, but faded like a watermark. If you look at the screenshot there is a whiter spot to the left of the word google and on the search bar. That's the white of the eye. To the right is the iris. It's not nearly as clear then what it looks like on the computer. But I can't get a screenshot to come out with the computer. So I took it with my iPad. It's so clear on his computer that you even see the beginning of the eyelid and the shape of the eye.

Yes, the ghost in the machine has produced an eye

from which to watch the user and surrounding area.

But does it appear less eye-like when the room is dark &

no other reflection in display, of other items in the room?

Do any other of the school's computers come equipped

with the all seeing eye of educational purpose installed?

The superstitious could seek to exchange the school

computer with a different one, with a regular camera.

Not sure what advice or solution to suggest. If it were

mine, I'd consider wearing a disguise while using it.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

You don't notice it when the screen is completely upright and full brightness. It has to be slightly tilted and a little dimmed to see the eye. But the is like a black and white of a real eye. I took art classes before and this definitely looks like a watermark picture rather than a distortion or drawing.

For an additional image for the desktop background to appear, one would

have to be installed in a system image folder for the OS X to pull from.

Not sure in that system, where such an item could or would have been placed

by another user of the computer. A completely new full install of the OS X is

one extreme method of removing any additional extras not originally in OS X.

Other user accounts, may not have such an image, if the item truly is some

add-on that a student or other person put into the system. Does the computer

run from an Admin account, or are there Student accounts in it?

In any event, the school's IT administrator should be asked about the status

of the computer that students are allowed to use away from the campus...

They'd be the ones responsible for upkeep, maintenance, & repairs.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
