simply put your device in dfu mode then restore via itunes

Simply plug your phone into the computer via usb, then put your device into DFU mode. To do this, hold the power button and home button together for 10 seconds, then let go of the power button but keep holding the home button. After you do this itunes will recognise your device in recovery mode, simply click restore and its done

Its an apple support page, he has an apple device, he needs support. They wouldnt have added a recovery mode and a dfu mode if people werent able to mess their devices up. After all dfu does stand for device firmware upgrade
