Update on those having problems Updating 1.2 itunes 5th gen. 30gig

Good Day,

Updated Itunes 7 last week no problems just sound problems but not that big of a deal. just barely went to update itunes with my ipod and waited 50 mins before finally searching boards since it was taking forever. saw all the troubleshooting but didn't want to try any of them so found one that worked instantly and I didn't even lose anything or any errors!

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3155947&#3155947

now did mine similar user poster in the thread but all i did was leave mine connected to USB, did reset on ipod, closed itunes, then reopened itunes and plugged USB in and did the update again. it instantly updated to 1.2 and now no problems and none of my music is missing or errors like posted. I didn't do any "rest to original settings" cause i didn't want to waste time or wipe out ipod reloading all the junk again. Thanks to previous poster who posted that and like a dummy I should have read the fourms first before updating.

Good Luck!

hi

just confused a bit did you mean it started up dating the ipod 30g but it took forever.

because when i tryed to up date my ipod 5g 30g and it came up with updating screen and nothing was happening it just wouldnt start updating my ipod, then it came bac with an unknown error. i did the ussual and disconected it and turned of itunes and restarted computer and tryed again. did the same thing. so i thought why dont i restore it after trying a different usb port and it did the same thing for restore. ive sort of left it there i can still load music on and all the other stuff but it would be good to up date it.

what can i do???

I'm glad this worked for you, but it did nothing for me.
Sorry, I have been trying to update for a few days, I'll most likly have to wait for a patch. You can search my past posts for more information if you are having the same problem as me. it might help you out a little

dear apple please stop smoking so much crack and fix iTunes 7 please!
I don't think Ill purchase another apple product with such lame software support.
It seams like everyone is screaming about this on this fourm and nothing is getting done.

Yes right mine was same as yours so sorry my answer was choppy but yes i updated itunes 7 music store last week. Today i barely plugged my ipod 30gig 5th generation into my pc to update the prompt that it requested 1.2. started to update and was going fine until the "updating" screen was stuck for around 50 mins so I didn't think a update would take that long. Just the update on Itunes was stalled my pc and other programs worked fine, also it showed my IPOD was plugged into "My comptuer " as some mentioned it wasn't shown during their update, so I started to research on itunes to see the problem. anyways searched but didn't see anything that i liked to fix the problem so I found and read the previous posters trick in the link above and it worked but I did mine a little different.

while mine was still stuck in the "updating" screen I did the following:

1. still plugged into PC , i did a reset on the ipod

2. then closed itunes

3. then next finally unplugged USB from PC then plugged it in again.

4. started up itunes again

5. I didn't reset my ipod on itunes again to original settings cause I didn't want to cause anymore problems so instead i clicked "install Update" it started back to that crazy stalled update screen like last time but this time it just was like that for few seconds then update powered up and boom! The update worked but it still has small update going on so you should wait until it tells you its done but you can still navigate your ipod while its doing it. its only around 1 min unlike the other one.

So i checked my music videos, songs, podcast, playlist, and nothing was missing or wrong like others posted. I followed the users original post above in the link. I didn't follow all steps but I guess I lucked out as mine worked with steps i tried. Maybe other users get those unnecesary errors to your ipod or PC because they keep restarting computer or pulling ipod out of usb during the update so I didn't want to deal with that since my pod if only few months old. Also I didn't want to deal with that but im glad his post worked because I didn't want to uninstall or reinstall all that stuff again or take all day to fix either. I didn't have to turn off any security either like some mentioned in other posts. So now all systems go and I avoided all those other nightmare issues others are having. Thanks again to the user who posted that trick tip!

Hope it works! Good Luck!

OK, I too had all the troubles when I updated t0 7.0 and ipod update 1.2. So, after 2 days of freaking out and the boards not helping I went in to "MY COMPUTR" found my ipod and formatted it. (You will have to go to where ever you have your itunes files and remove the itune playlist from the folder and then go to the previuos versions of playlists and move or copy it to the folder above that one and rename it by just taking out the date on it.)
Then I uninstalled 7.0 and reinstalled 6.0.5 Guess what...... my ipod is back to normal again. Nowopen Itunes 6.0.5 and it should work again and your ipod should have all the original software back on it. You will have to reset up your ipod and maybe tweak all your playlists... if you have files on other PCs (networked) you may also have to relink or add the files or folders back to your playlits or music folders)
Hope that helps.. it did for me...and never again will I jump the gun and do any ipdo updates BEFORE checking this site for problems!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!
