Yes right mine was same as yours so sorry my answer was choppy but yes i updated itunes 7 music store last week. Today i barely plugged my ipod 30gig 5th generation into my pc to update the prompt that it requested 1.2. started to update and was going fine until the "updating" screen was stuck for around 50 mins so I didn't think a update would take that long. Just the update on Itunes was stalled my pc and other programs worked fine, also it showed my IPOD was plugged into "My comptuer " as some mentioned it wasn't shown during their update, so I started to research on itunes to see the problem. anyways searched but didn't see anything that i liked to fix the problem so I found and read the previous posters trick in the link above and it worked but I did mine a little different.
while mine was still stuck in the "updating" screen I did the following:
1. still plugged into PC , i did a reset on the ipod
2. then closed itunes
3. then next finally unplugged USB from PC then plugged it in again.
4. started up itunes again
5. I didn't reset my ipod on itunes again to original settings cause I didn't want to cause anymore problems so instead i clicked "install Update" it started back to that crazy stalled update screen like last time but this time it just was like that for few seconds then update powered up and boom! The update worked but it still has small update going on so you should wait until it tells you its done but you can still navigate your ipod while its doing it. its only around 1 min unlike the other one.
So i checked my music videos, songs, podcast, playlist, and nothing was missing or wrong like others posted. I followed the users original post above in the link. I didn't follow all steps but I guess I lucked out as mine worked with steps i tried. Maybe other users get those unnecesary errors to your ipod or PC because they keep restarting computer or pulling ipod out of usb during the update so I didn't want to deal with that since my pod if only few months old. Also I didn't want to deal with that but im glad his post worked because I didn't want to uninstall or reinstall all that stuff again or take all day to fix either. I didn't have to turn off any security either like some mentioned in other posts. So now all systems go and I avoided all those other nightmare issues others are having. Thanks again to the user who posted that trick tip!
Hope it works! Good Luck!
