Do I need NetUpdate?

Do I need NetUpdate?

My screen says that something's wrong with NetUpdate. Is that important? What is NetUpdate? What does it do? Should I just ignore the warning? If it's something that I should have, how do I get it back?

MacUpdate and NetUpdate are not related. The latter is specifically to do with Intego's programs such as Internet Security Barrier or whatever they are calling it now. If you don't have Intego programs you don't need it. If you have Intego programs and have deleted it, they won't get updated and for example virus definitions and ContentBarrier information won't be downloaded.

NetUpdate is part of Intego's suite of internet security programs and checks for updates and applies them. If you are having problems with it it's best to contact Intego Support, who I've always found efficient at dealing with issues.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I was looking for the answer, but you beat me to it. Anyway, using your link, I found the following: Intego NetUpdate is a program used by other Intego programs to check for updates to the programs and their support files (virus threat filters, content filters, etc.). NetUpdate is installed when you install any Intego application. It checks for updates of all Intego programs at the same time, and downloads and installs updates for all Intego programs installed on your computer.

Even though this answer tells me what NetUpdate does, I'm not sure that I need to reinstall it (I've now deleted it). I'll wait to see what Intego says before deciding what to do. Incidentally, I already have MacUpdate, and I think that I don't need NetUpdate. Thanks for your help.
