Apple Keyboard and Mouse Range

Is there a way to extend the Bluetooth range of the keyboard and mouse?

I like the idea of using my new Mac mini in my other rooms via Apple TV but the range of the keyboard and mouse is terrible. It barely works in the next room (about 4 metres away) never mind the upstairs rooms.

I can't help but think these products would be better as wifi connections..
