Why can't I get email using icon?

When I select the mail icon, I receive a page saying Welcome, and a list of 6 mail selections i.e. Cloud, Google, Exchange, Yahoo, Aol, Outlook.com, and other.

what happened?

iPad 2, iOS 7.1.2

Try quitting the email app like I describe then reset your iPad. Double click the Home button to show the screen with running and recently used apps. Each app icon will have a sample page above it. Flick up on the page (not the app icon) and the page will fly away and the app icon will disappear. This quits that app. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.

If that doesn't help, you can open mail and chose an account from the ones on the page (ex. Yahoo mail, GMail, Exchange etc.) and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up. If you can't see your email service, there should be an option "other" at the bottom. You can search the web for instructions on how to set up your email on iPad/iPhone manually (using the "other" option).
