You need to get your friend to remove the Apple ID and password and free the iPhone from the iCloud account. Unless that s done you will never be able to activate or use that iPhone.

This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner or the previous owner cannot provide the required information then return the device to where you got it, in this case that's your "friend." If you paid your friend money for the phone ask for a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

You 'took it from your friend'? Did you have his permission? Was it his iPhone? Where did he get it from?
If he is the original purchaser of the iPhone from an Apple Authorized Retail Store, and he cannot remember the Apple ID or Password, and he cannot recover it by using iforgot.apple.com, then if he has a proof-of-purchase, he can contact Apple. They may be able to help him reset his password, for example, or use the proof of purchase to request an unlock.
However, I think there's more going on here. If you paid for this iPhone, then get your money back and buy one that is not Activation Locked.
