Help with Cinema 4D R16.021 update issues with macs setup via Migration Assistant
Hi There,
I'm seeing a bunch of errors while trying to update Cinema 4D R16 to the latest .021 version.
Maxon have told me that it's an OSX permissions issue so I've tried:
- Repairing permissions using Disk Utility
- Updating after booting into safe mode
- Verifying the disk (via Disk Utility and in single user mode using $fsck -f)
- Installing/updating on a different Mac Pro (10.9.4)
So far I've been able to run the R16.021 update on my Macbook Pro but it doesn't work on either of my Mac Pros.
Besides being different computer types, both Mac Pros were originally migrated from the Macbook Pro using Migration Assistant which leads me to suspect that there's some kind of user issue going on (same username but different UID maybe?).
I'm not totally sure how Migration Assistant works but I've tried forcing user permissions on the app by:
- CMD + I on the CINEMA 4D.app, adding my user and granting read/write access
- In terminal using: $ sudo chmod 777 CINEMA\ 4D.app/
- Tried forcing permissions recursively into the package contents of the app using: $ sudo chmod -R 777 CINEMA\ 4D.app/
- Changing the owner of the app from root to my username via: $ sudo chown -v username CINEMA\ 4D.app/
But so far, the only thing that's worked has been a complete erase and install of one of the Mac Pros - which takes a day.
Before I go through this drawn out process on the other Mac Pro, does anyone know how to check for, and repair permissions issues caused by Migration Assistant?
Any help would be much appreciated - system details are:
- 2013 Mac Pro
- OSX 10.9.4
- Cinema 4D R16.021 update
Cheers
Ben
