Q: iPad gen 4 restore error code 4014

My ipad gen 4 crashed. I was able to restore it to new. It worked fine for about 3 weeks  I received a face time call and managed to lock it up. The screen froze so o forced it down by holding both the power button and the button on the front. I have not been successful with another restore.  I tried two of my own computers and took it to the apple store. The error code is 4014. The apple rep said it is not repairable.  I am not quite ready to give up as my initial restore took many failed attempts With the same error code. the ipad is in perfect condition. I am just having a hard time accepting this failure. Any ideas?  Is it a hard ware issue.

Well, i checked up your error code and it seems that your iPad disconnects at some point in the restore or iTunes can't prepare the iPad for the restore. Here you go: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5314.

As you have tried on several different computers, the problem isn't in iTunes and you could check your cable.

i have tried a couple of different cables also.  my troubles all started when I was preparing for a trip and started two downloads of movies from the apple store as well as accessing iCloud at the same time. I am sure it was all coincidental. It's just that previously I had experienced no issues of any sort. one of the movies I was downloading did not complete and afterwards my first crash happened. Just so disappointed

Are you actually in recovery mode while trying to restore?

    Have you tried this?

    1. Turn off iPad

    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)

    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port

    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.

DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug

    5. Release Home button.

    ON COMPUTER

    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.

    7. Select "Restore iPad"...

    Note:

    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup

    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

My ipad is not responding at all.  The screen is black and will not go into recovery mode.  I have tried all of the above suggestions.  As I stated, I was able to restore it once and then it froze up and I forced it down by holding the on/off and the home button.  It has been unresponsive since.   I suppose it istime to accept defeat...it is not repairable as the apple service member stated.  Now my question is...should I replace it with a like model?  I am reluctant to purchase new now because of the investment.  Buying new is like purchasing a new car.  You can still get a lemon and you lose big on your investment. The ipad is in excellent condition with no scratches.  Any suggestions on disposing of?  Should I turn it in to the apple recycle?  Thanks everyone for listening and for your advice.

I think that recycling wouldn't be a good option because you aren't going to get a lot for an iPad that doesn't turn on and you can't recycle it at all if "find my iPad" is turned on. If I was you I would go for a replacement as you will save $100. New iPad with retina display (4th gen.) costs $399 and a replacement costs $299. But you can always check Apple's certified refurbished iPads and trade in the broken one.
