I inherited this computer from my late father in law and want to upgrade the OS. It had 10.5.8 and I bought the 10.6 Snow Leopard, which I have installed. I downloaded the 10.6.8 upgrade only to be told that I could not install without being on 10.7 first. What steps are needed to get to Mavericks from this 10.6.3 and is there yet more costs involved? Thanks.

Where didi you get this 10.6.8 upgrade? You should be using the Software Update feature listed under the menu in the upper left corner.
I bought the 10.6.3 disc from Apple and installed it. I downloaded the 10.6.8 upgrade from the Apple site and tried to install this upgrade but got a message that I had to this from 10.6.7.
I DID use the software update under the Apple but it says all are up to date.
Have you tried the Combo update below?
