Hello Suzefred,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I have provided several articles for setting up groups for emails. One each for iOS, iCloud and the Mac, so you can choose which might be better for your circumstances.
iOS: Understanding group messaging

iCloud: Create a group and add contacts to it

Regards,
Jeff D.
As far as I know, none of the solutions suggested above will allow you to email to those groups that you create in the contacts app, and of course, if you don't have a Mac, then the last suggestion will not apply to you anyway.
There are third party apps that will perform this simple basic function that the built in mail app and contacts app will not do, so you may opt to use of of them.

It is also possible to add multiple email addresses (separated by comma, no space) to a single email field on a contact. Obviously, if your group email needs can be accommodated by a stated Contacts entry, this would work. for more dynamic functionality, one of Demo's recommended apps would be required.
