When I plug my Ipad or Ipod into my computer it comes up with a box asking about what I want to do with it but when I go into Itunes neither of them appear. I have tried reinstalling itunes and it still doesn't work.

It sounds like your iPad and iPod aren't being recognized in iTunes, but you do get a prompt from Windows so your computer sees them. I would use both of these articles first one, then the other to help get that resolved:
