how can I remove rests from the score?

I am an amateur pianist and recording my score I hesitated and rests were added to the score. When I click on them, nothing happens as they do not highlight.

How can I get rid of the black rectangle bode rests on the treble and bass clefs?

You remove the rests by extending the length of the notes that follow the rests. This is best be done by editing the score in Piano Roll view. You can move the bars, that show the duration of the notes around and grab the end of the bars to extend the duration. The rest are automatically created, when no note is playing, so you have to shift or extend the notes to remove the rests.
