Can't finish Apple Hardware Test

I ran an Apple Hardware Test on my Macbook Pro yesterday and it didn't finish. Everything was fine at first, the probing ran quite fast, memory and logic board test ran smoothly too. However, it was stuck when the test almost finished. The description said : "Testing in progress". I left the test for about an hour and it still didn't finish.

Could it be a hardware issue or clean install will fix the problem? I've owned this Macbook Pro for about 3 years and have never did a clean install.

Oh, and yesterday my Macbook suddenly had a black screen while I was using Photoshop, as if it was in sleep mode. So, I manually shut it down by holding the power button because the black screen couldn't go away no matter what I do. I restarted it like 3 times and it went on black screen after the chime. This has never happened before. Do you think it has anything to do with the Hardware Test issue?

(sorry about my grammar, I am Indonesian)

I doubt that.

If this is true, this might be your problem. A 2010 MBP should have RAM with the following specifications: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.

You may have to bring your MBP to an Apple store or AASP for evaluation.

You English is just fine. 🙂

Ciao.

Boot the MBP using the Snow Leopard installation disk as if you were to reinstall the OSX.

During the process, when you see a menu bar on top of thy display, click on UTILITIES.

From the drop down menu, select Disk Utility.

Run Disk Utility>First Aid, Verify and Repair.

What are the results?

Did you use the #2 installation disk to run the Apple Hardware Test (the disk with the AHT instructions on it)?

Ciao.

Guys,

i have the similar problem with AHT, mine is an iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), testing memory and logic board went fine, but AHT was frozen towards the end and i had to force shutdown. i tried AHT several times, and even left overnight. based on other reviews, I ran disk utility test to see if any bad sector in HDD, but no disk errors found. i don't have any major issue other than occasional freezing and slowness. it's out of warranty. any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1
