I just bought a used ipad and wiped it and downloaded v 7.1.2 of the mac OS.
this is my first ever Apple product, and I'm trying to download MS Office on it to use for school.
i Have the .pkg file on my Drive but I am unable to open it and run the download. I get the error : "you do not have any apps that support this file type. Unable to open."
Someone please help!

Where did you get this PKG file from? You cannot install Mac OSx Applications on an iPad.
Anything you want to install on an iPad must come either from the App Store App on the iPad itself, Or synced through iTunes from your computer. To be synced it had to be downloaded from the App section of the Store in the iTunes Application.
And external PKG file indicates it is not in a format for the iPad.
You load apps to an ipad buy purchasing them from the apple App store on the ipad or through itunes on the computer.
The Microsoft apps are free to download but require a subscription to Office 365 for editing capabilities, Done through the in-app purchase.
You can not load Apps from other OS platforms to an ipad.
There are alternatives to M$ Office on the iPad.
