Permission problems on my own computer; can't access files!

Hello anyone who might be able to help...

I am trying to access movies that I just have recorded on Photobooth; when I go to Users and click my username, there is a list of folders called 'Movies', 'Pictures' etc but when I try to open the folders I get this message: <<The folder “Pictures” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents>> - it seems I do not have permission on my own laptop to access certain folders. I am not sure how this happened as I have in the past been ok to view these folders and no one else has access to my computer. Can anyone please help or advise me how to access or change these permissions?

Thanks Neil. I have now changed it to 'Read & Write' in the Get Info folder but it still does not allow me to access the folders - gives the very same no permission message. All I can think of to do is either restart my computer or go to the User folder and click "Apply to Enclosed Items". I've attached a screenshot. Any ideas?

I've managed to make it work by adding a new user (myself) and then giving permission. However, the folders I was trying to access (inc Movies) were then found to be totally empty - so I will have to keep searching for where my Photobooth movies might be stored! Any ideas?

Strangely, if you look at the screenshots I attached in my first two postings you will see that it says 'fetching' for a User (that is not me) that apparently has read & write permission. It never comes up with the name but carries on saying 'Fetching'. Who might this refer to? Could it be a hack?

Thanks for your help Neil.
