How do I remove the free U2 album from my iTunes library?

So we all have a free U2 album in our iTunes library now. I don't like U2 and don't want it. I get an option to 'hide' it in iTunes, but not to delete it. How can I remove it entirely from my library in iCloud? I have just been to iCloud.com, but can't see anything there.

iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased. Use All and Not on this computer as you would expect. If you delete the album and hide from iTunes in the Cloud it will disappear from both lists. The only time you would become aware of it is if you went into your account history to manage your hidden purchases. It is possible that the iTunes Store support staff could completely erase all trace of the item but that may be beyond their powers.

I'm not in front of my computer just now, but once you hide it then it should stay hidden and not show on that page. Perhaps you have to refresh for it to disappear or close iTunes and reopen. Once fully hidden you have to actively trawl around in the hidden purchases section of your account history to find it again. Most of us usually have no reason to visit it. From memory I have a couple of items that iTunes otherwise thinks I need to redownload all the time even though they are in my library and the delightfully titled "Spank The Monkey" that one of my kids thought it amusing to download on my behalf a few years ago. 😮

Ha, "Spank the Monkey".

Again, though, that is just hiding it, and not deleting it from the account, which is what I am trying to do.

That isn't in your power. as given, it may be possible that the iTunes Store support staff could completely erase all trace of the item, but that may be beyond their powers too. You can ask via the report a problem links in your account history.

I think I love your kid. ROFL. 😁

BTW, you are the iTunes expert, but I have never heard of anyone having an iTunes purchase successfully expunged from their records. Like you said, they can be hidden but never, ever removed permanently AFAIK.

It could also be worth mentioning that I do NOT have iTunes Match. (Some solutions I found by Googling rely on having iTunes Match.)

Neither do I. Realistically I'd expect it be the same as if you bought the album and then decided that you never want to listen to it and want to hide it from your library. You cannot erase the purchase since that is a historical transaction. Your acceptance of the free gift, albeit inadvertent, is likely to be treated in the same way.

Ah, I see you've reached the same conclusion. 😉

Best of luck.

Could be the rather unusual nature of this one would provide reason for an exception. Although personally I would recommend the OP giving it a listen. Pretty good album, actually.
