Hi jaebl04,

I was afraid that the issue might be Activation Lock. Apple will not be able to help you. The only way to get around the Activation Lock is through the person who is signed onto iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device. Here are the instructions for doing this:

If the previous owner will not cooperate, then see if you can get your money back. The owner should be helping you to get around this issue, and if the ID signed onto the device is not the owner, then the owner probably sold you a stolen device. Here are some instructions to help you in future when you purchase a second-hand device. Following these instructions will help you to avoid the kind of underhanded tactics apparently being used by the person who sold you the device:

How do I check for Activation Lock before purchasing a used device?

When purchasing an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from someone other than Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, it is up to you to ensure that the device has been erased and is no longer linked to the previous owner’s account.

Follow each of these steps to make sure that you can use the device you purchase:

  1. Turn the device on and slide to unlock.
  2. If the passcode lock screen or the home screen appears, the device has not been erased. Ask the seller to completely erase the device by going to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been erased.
  3. Begin the device setup process.
  4. After choosing a language, choosing a country, and connecting to a network, the device will begin activation. If you are asked for the previous owner’s Apple ID and password, the device is still linked to their account. Hand the device back to the seller and ask them to enter their password. If the previous owner is not present, they can remove the device from their account by signing in to icloud.com/find. Do not take ownership of any used iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch until it has been removed from the previous owner’s account.

You will know that a device is ready for you to use when you are asked to “Set up your iPhone", “Set up your iPad", or “Set up your iPod” during the device setup process.

These instructions are also contained in this link that gives you all of the information about Activation Lock:

ACTIVATION LOCK

Sorry for your troubles. And sorry you were the victim of an unscrupulous person. If the seller is on the up and up, they will help you to resolve this, or will give you your money back.

Again, sorry for your troubles,

Hi gail, thank you for providing the email information. I just cut and paste the statements i've made regarding my concerns with Apple iPod. Hope you can help me. This is legitimate, i attest to this.

My daughter just bought a second hand Ipod touch (5th gen) out from her hard earned saved money. The first owner says that he already deleted his Apple id so that my daughter can use it with her account. Unfortunately when my daughter attempted to do IOS upgrade, she was stacked with the Activation Ipod screen asking for her Apple ID. We tried to reach out the first owner, however, he mentioned that he already deleted it and his account doesnt match to the hint that was given by the activation screen. The hint say "This IPod is currently liked to an Apple ID (o.....@yahoo.com)". My daughter created an apple id just to download songs from iTunes. She tried to use this account but failed.

If my daughter is a victim of such scam, can Apple help poor people like my daughter who is so depress of what happened to her unit which she saved her money for it, just to acquire one. I tried all possible things by calling their 1-800 contacts, reaching out to friends, but all failed.

I believe that Apple have compassion to people who where victims of this kind of scam and sure they can help. So anyone, who can help me how to forward this concerns of mine directly to Apple support, via email maybe? as i have difficulties calling them.

Thanks,
