Q: iTunes won't update from 11.1.5 to 11.4. Why?

As the title says. Not sure why it won't update. I have:

Macbook Pro (mid 2009), running Mavericks

And have tried software update, app store, reloaded the app store page, tried my Admin profile, tried downloading it from the site, pretty much everything I can think of. What do? HALP

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

    Try this way ...

Launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes > Check for Updates

Make sure to "quit" iTunes before downloading the update.

It's a small file. Only about 93MB's. Only took a minute to download on a broadband connection here.

Done that too. It says 11.4 is available but then the app store says no updates available. I'd think I already had the update....... but then iTunes 11.4 was just released today.

Maybe it's a problem with the App Store?

    I'm having the same problem.

iTunes has been crashing on my Macbook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) for days and, every time I try to update iTunes, the App Store opens to the update menu, I get the "pinwheel of death" for about 5min, and then there's a server error message...

Well, I at least am not having THAT happen........ another thing to note is that when I try to download iTunes from the site, it finishes downloading but then I can't find it anywhere on my computer (and believe me, I searched). What was your server error message, chakk19? Have you tried looking it up? I'd love to have an error message, it'd mean I could diagnose this dang problem.

BUMP, dangit! I need some help (and apparently 3 other people do as well) here, please! Feeling like it's going to involve opening up Terminal, which is not something I really know how to work with.

I can't update either. It downloads then says "Errors occurred while trying install the update. If it persists, trying downloading and installing manually."

I tried that to no avail also. SO frustrating--should be easy/seamless but I just can't get it to update. Any ideas??? THANKS.

I ended up just uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes bc nothing else worked. Then I got an error message, "key not valid for use in specified state," and went and followed the steps here: key not valid for use in specified state and it installed and works fine. So stupid--should be SO much easier to update iTunes at this stage in the game...

At least you get an error message. Congrats on figuring out your particular problem!

    Mine remains resistant to updates.

Not sure I even care anymore at this point. If I uninstall and try to reinstall, I'll lose my imported music, right? I know I can re-download my purchases, but of course....... so many CDs.

I don't BELIEVE you would lose anything. I didn't, and my collection is probably 70% imported CDs.

I'm having an issue updating from iTunes 11.3 on a Windows XP machine. Whenever I try to update from either iTunes or Apple Software Update, they simply stop responding and I have to use Task Manager to close them. When I try downloading the installer manually from the website, it takes me to the "Thank You" page, but never starts the download.

Just updated to Yosemite, so I do have iTunes 12 now, but now it's saying 12.0.1 is available and it's THE SAME THING. Check for updates, nothing. Search app store, nothing. Try to download from site, NOTHING. What in the world is going on here???

Used a different browser (used Safari instead of Firefox) and was able to update from the website.
