Aggregate device sync problems

Ok, this could be a couple of things...

I have a G4 Quicksilver upgraded to dual 1.4GHz, Audiophile 2496 soundcard and system outputs combined in an aggregate device to give me 2x stereo outs - one pair goes to a stereo channel on my sound desk and carries all but my kick drum, the other output into a mono pair panned L-R carries the kick. The reason for this is to sidechain the main mix with the kick (yes, I produce Hard House...)

Problem is, after a wee while the kick goes out of sync with the rest of the mix. I put it down initially to differing EQ settings in my desk. Nope. Then perhaps resistance fluctuations caused by heating up of the circuit. Nope, because occassionally it comes back into sync, so I could rule out hardware issues. Another issue is every now and then Logic will drop the connection from my MIDI controller to Reason via ReWire2, and will only work when playing, not when stopped. All other MIDI notes routed to Reason work fine. When viewing Reason it looks to have jammed, but will work fine when I press play again. Again, this appears to be an intermittent fault, which leads me to think both issues are driver or software based.

I am required to have System Prefs/Sound open all the time I am working to prevent stuttering when pressing stop as a work-a-round to a previous problem with the Delta series soundcards.

Has anyone else experienced any of these weird issues, and know of any work-a-round?

So, you're saying that the system outputs and the Audiophile outputs go out of sync?

That's hardly surprising - since they will both have their own independent clocks (whether 44.1kHz, 96kHz, or whatever) and these won't stay together apart from sheer luck. If you want to synchronise digital audio sources, one must be a master clock, and the other slaved to it. I doubt whether this is possible using the devices you list.

The reason for coming back into sync will again simply be luck; minute fluctuations in temperature will cause both clocks to speed up and/or slow down...

Yep, that's what I'm saying...

But with CoreAudio doesn't the aggregate device automatically sync all outputs to the chosen frequency in Logic Preferences?

Hang on... Ok, in the aggregate device editor, there is a choice of whether to sync to the internal clock or to the Audiophile. I had it set to Audiophile but now have it set to internal and initial testing seems good, but time will tell...

Also, the effects I was experiencing before seemed more akin to two records playing together, one slightly pitched down to the other (yep, I mix too...)

Cheers! : )
