Cannot get my Minolta digital camera to be recognized properly

I'm a LONG TIME Windows user dabbling in the world of OSX for the first time. I'm using a MacMini where I've installed Parallels Desktop so that I can run XP as well (pretty cool so far)!

I have a Minolta Dimage G400 camera that I used with my old Dell PC under XP Pro with no problems. When I connect it to my MacMini a new "drive" appears on the desktop with the title "NO NAME". I can access the images by navigating through the finder as if my camera were a drive.

Is there anything I can do to get the camera to be recognized properly?

Thanks,
Steve

You can name your camera's disk so the "NO_NAME" part will be something like "Camera". To do this, select the camera disk and press (at the same time)command (applekey)-i which brings up the infowindow. You can rename your camera disk there.

Another cool thing is to assign your camera a custom icon, if you want to do it I will tell you. I have mine set to be a camera.

I suggest ignoring applications in both Maac aand XP and copying your pictures directly from Finder. When it mounts the camera disk, navigate to the pictures folder and drag it to your desktop and the entire folder will be copied. You can then open the folder in whatever application you want, I use GraphicConverter.

Lastly, some cameras have a menu setup setting for disk usage. You might explore your camera's menu and look for a setting to tell it to "act like a data disk". Windows has a proprietary system for integrating camera disks but that system is not shared with Apple. Use the "Data Disk" option to bypass Micro$oft's sabotage of your camera
