Do the photos I have saved in iPhoto and MyPhotoStream use up the memory on my macbook or are they all just saved online? I'm wondering because I want to delete photos on my other iOS devices after syncing all of them onto just my macbook. But I won't do this if placing all my photos on my macbook will use up computer memory.

The iPhoto library is stored on the computer by default but can be put on an external drive. The contents of the photo stream are on Apple's servers.

Thanks for your reply! So if I don't want to use up my device memory, I should just store everything on the photo stream? Is it reliable source for long term and quality storage? Or should I use a different cloud storage option (like Dropbox).
And are the photos that appear in my iPhoto "Library" stored on the computer or apart of my photo stream?
1. No. Content will be deleted from the photo stream after 30 days.
2. You should upload individual photos to a longer-term storage service. If you choose to upload an entire iPhoto library that way, put it in a disk image first.

A few things
1 - terms - memory and disk storage are different things - no photos take up memory - sme take up disk storage - and you must always have a min of 10GB of free disk storage for the system to operate well
2- All photos saved in iPhoto use disk space - BUT MyPhotoStream photos are not saved in iPhoto unless you choose to do so - that is set in the iPhoto preferences - if you do not want to save photos on your Mac then turn of the preference to automatically import them - it you wan them saved on your Mac turn that option on and they will be imported and take disk space
3 - if you do not import the photos into iPhoto (which uses disk space) then when you delete them from any IOS device they will be gone form all devices

Photo Stream is for Streaming photos. And your Mac mirrors the photos in iCloud MyPhotoStream. There is always local copy of the last 1000 photos kept in your user library. So the Photo Stream uses disk space on your Mac, even if you do not download the photos permanently to your Mac.
