Contract free is not the same a unlocked (SIM free). You will need to have service for 40 days with T-Mobile prior to unlocking their phone.

Apple generally does not sell an unlocked iPhone at their stores until one month after the release date.

Does it mean that If I buy an iphone 6 with a T-mobile sim card, I need to wait 40 days? Then it will get unlocked -automatically- and I will be able use it with any sim card (e.g. with my current sim card in Turkey). Does it work in this way?

No. It means you will have to activate it with T-Mobilie USA, pay for their service for 40 days then request and unlock through them while you are still on their service. So you will need to purchase it, activate it with T-Mobile that same day, book a hotel for 60 days or so, pay to use it, go through the unlock process, then you can use it in Turkey.

Sounds like a pretty expensive iPhone.

They generally sell one month after the original release date. Do you have any idea what might happen this time with the iphone6? Do you expect it to have an unlocked version within a month as well?

It has been confirmed that the iPhone can be purchased unlocked when you buy the iPhone 6 direct with Apple at full price (not subsidized). There are three iPhone 6 users on MacRumors who swapped their ATT card on a Contract Free (unlocked) T-Mobile and they worked fine, the only report from the users who swapped iPhone 5 SIMM to iPhone 6 slot were that they received a text message from ATT to upgrade the SIM card, but the phone works perfectly unlocked when the T-Mobile phone is purchased at Apple direct.

Unfortunately, it might not be all good news. I attempted to move my iPhone 5's AT&T SIM to my new full-retail price, iPhone 6 "contract-free" phone, and currently only voice and text are working. See the details in the thread "Text Message from ATT after moving SIM card from 5S" (thread/6544033).

I Have iphone 6 64 GB from apple.store.com, it s Tmobile contract free, yes the phone is 100%unlocked from factory, however you have to remove the tmobile SIM card that was inside and replace with your choice carrier sim before activating your phone. Everthing works, Siri, safari, iMessage, LTE, calls, voice, text....fully unlocked. Model A1549. Hope this help, buy straight from Apple.com no others.

have you ever tried to check it did not actually lock to the sim of the carrier you actually used rather than T-Mobile

IIt s unlocked from factory, it is not locked to tmobile ( you must replace tmobile sim that is inside with your choice carrier Sim ) before turning it on the first time from the box ! That what everybody here told me and it works, LTE works, text, web, everthing on your choice carrier.
