Add Gmail account with custom domain to mail

If you do the correct steps, it wont be problem.

IMAP is the best... IMAP only download the heads on your PC and when you Open de email so the data download complete... but, POP will download all the mails to you PC.. so, IMAP is the best.

Verify the account and verify the password.. how you acces to the email normally?

Correct... is the same on Mail, username (username@shoolname.ca) and password.

Yeh! i dont know what could be wrong! can you provide my personal info to talk and try to resolve? Skype?

I'm in the same boat as everyone else. I added my custom domain gmail account via System Preferences > Internet Accounts > Google and it partially sets it up. Contacts, Calendars and Messages are synced no problem but Notes and Mail are unchecked and every time I check them they uncheck themselves again and I can't use the mail for this account. I've tried adding through Mail.app but the same thing happens.

It seems as if using Gmail with custom domains in OS X is permanently broken because they don't even allow me to go in and view/tweak SMTP or IMAP settings, just the username and password. I'm extremely frustrated by this so any assistance would be really appreciated.

By the way, this worked fine up until Mavericks.

I'm having the same problem (Yosemite) - trying to add a gmail account that uses my school email address (example@myschool.edu) to mail on my Macbook Air. I was able to add this account to my iPhone 6, but no-go with 10.10. This is a real pain in the ***, any suggestions.

I think I just solved the problem. Instead of setting up the account with the "Google" button, use the last one..."Add other account".

You use the same login information, but Apple Mail seems to have an easier time resolving the settings. It worked for me!

I finally figured out my workaround (I'm using Mavericks).

Go into Mail and Add Account. Then do what wubie317 says, select "Add other account" DO NOT select Google / Gmail.

You will then be asked to enter the mail server addresses for Gmail. The info is below. Good luck!

I am having this same problem!!!!! did you figure yours out? mine just keeps asking for my password over and over, my iPhone works fine but my mac refuses to accept my password. I even went and changed it... GRRR
