I accidentally downloaded the U2 album...?

Unfortunately, I've received U2's "Songs of Innocence" on my iPhone, and I want to get rid of it. I figured that if I downloaded it, I would be able to delete it just like any other song on my music, so I tried that with a couple songs, and they came back, so is there a way I can remove it from my music? Space is also a serious issue on my phone, so it's annoying for me to know that a band that I don't like is taking up valuable space. I had to create a new playlist with all my songs before U2 decided they had the right to sneak itself onto my phone. So if I've downloaded parts of the album, can I delete those songs or nah?

Edit: Yes I've tried the swiping thing. I've deleted songs off my music before.

agree with Chris really. I am annoyed though somehow. You can hide it without hiding other stuff though, user error caused me problems and I won't blame Apple for that. I found it annoying though, we accept a lot of unsolicited stuff thru the mails, maybe there should be a "Don't want your freebies" option! I really don't like U2 is part of the problem.

well, you were a bit rude. but my problem isn't with you Chris, but with Apple....

i guess i'm still not happy cos the **** thing won't go away from my phone. i've managed to remove it from my computer, it isn't showing on my list of purchases but its still showing on my iphone. isn't this a lot of fun? that's the best gift ever, something i've always wanted, like a statue of feces glued inside my home.

even if i can take this away, and please someone help me here, it's just wonderful spending all this time figuring out how to get rid of something that shouldn't be there in the first place.

ps. i don't have itunes match, i don't know if this is the problem here... nor do i plan on signing it after this little stunt

I had the same problem betamaya. I couldn't get it off my phone, I have no idea why, I didn't go anything with match and don't have it so it could be to do with that?
Like you I was annoyed and also accidentaly downloaded two tracks somehow. In the end I backed up my phone to iTunes and did a full restore. As it happens this also corrected alert sounds not coming thru when I had a headset attached, though I had been led to believe that this was the way the phone worked, so I hadn't tried to correct it before.
Anyway I had to do a full reset, that worked though I am not sure why and exactly what I did afterwards. I think if you have hidden the **** thing in iCloud it should be ok since it won't appear in the back up or on iTunes?

thanks a lot tudormonkey i'll try that later on.

it's upsetting to have to all of this to get rid of it though.

i find it funny how some people (i've been reading posts about this all over the internet) are so quick to jump to apple's defense. when this is clearly not a gift, but a marketing strategy between apple and U2, and they both are benefiting for it. this is promo, and unsolicited one, to me this is a form of spam.

a gift would be the opportunity to download an album of my choosing for free.

I see it as a worrying development actually, though I don't feel as strongly as betamaya. A kind of bloatware in my view. I was able to get rid of it and the problems were mostly user-error initially. I agree that it is promotional and self serving for U2 and Apple though gifts often are! I don't want material I haven't solicited on my iTunes basically and I think it is a worrying trend. Mostly my podcasts and iTunes U are amazingly advert and promo free, maybe that is now felt to be a problem from a commercial point of view? Gifts are anthropologically complex and interesting. books and albums are notoriously tricky ones aren't they and assume familiarity? Apple got it totally wrong in my case. I did listen to one track too by the way, that made me even madder, I thought it was sh*t. A gift in this case would have been a credit of $9.99 in one's account? iTunes is a resource for me, I use it for audio books and lectures etc. I don't want promo stuff on it. I agree that it is, if you know how to do it, fairly easy to 'hide' the album and I learnt some of that stuff in the course of it: the accidental download meant I had to do a reset of the whole phone though, that might be a technical glitch for all I know.
