Q: Upgraded to iTunes 11.4 and now it won't sync my iPhone 5s-sync button is greyed out.

I upgraded to iTunes 11.4 today, and now I'm  not able to sync my iPhone 5s.  The sync button is greyed out.  I tried reinstalling, reauthorizing, signing in again in iTunes and my iPhone. I also restored my phone twice...not sure what else to do.  I'm running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) on an iMac Intel Core Duo.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Been using iTunes for 10 years now and the current version is the worst I have ever been involved with.  I currently have a macbook pro with 10.9.5 and 11.4 ( 64 bit).  I sync my iTunes library with two devices a iPhone 5s and itouch, which i have updated and restored back 2 times in the last week.  List of problems that I am having:

    1.  Itunes playlist will not add selected playlist to the devices.

    2.  Playlist that are added to devices will not have the proper music

    3.  Music that are on devices will not play properly (song only plays to the halfway point)

    What else have I tried.

    1.  restore both devices to new config

    2. switched to computer back-up instead of iCloud (iTunes menu)

3 selected to manually add music (iTunes menu)

    4.  unchecked sync automatically (iTunes menu)

    Please provide some feedback.

Problem: I was waiting for a fix to iTunes 11.4 for Snow Leopard on 32bit iMac. It seems that it has been updated (silently) but I was not .

When I clic on the link given, I get the iTunes 12 download link.

Can anyone post the "fixed" 11.4 dmg somewhere ?

    Would be really appreciated...

I just uploaded the Sept. 25th  "iTunes 11.4++" .dmg file (ZIP'ed) to MediaFire for you.

I too had the same problem where I couldn't sync any music to my iphone 5s from iTunes 11.4, but following the instructions of cwa2,

going to finder and using go to (shift+cmd+g) and then deleting all of this and then clearing my trash bin and downloading and installing iTunes 11.3.1

    So, delete all this:

In order for all of the 11.4 components to be replaced, you will need to remove, in addition to /Applications/iTunes.app,

    • /Library/Frameworks/iTunesLibrary.framework
    • /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/MobileDevices.bun dle
    • /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
    • /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
    • /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AirTrafficHost.framework
    • /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreFP.framework
    • /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
    • /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iTunesAccess.framework
    • /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

And then if you are looking for iTunes 11.3.1 you can find it here:

Does 12.0.1 also have this same issue or is it safe to install?

[EDIT] Nevermind, I see 12.0.1 is only for 10.7.5 and above.

    that will not work, cindy

the problem is that apple forgot to include 32 bit code in its syncing module for 11.4 itunes and older 32 machines running snow leopard  cannot sync no matter how many tips you try.

    Update:

I'm happy to report that Apple has finally fixed the disk image link on the above Knowledge Base article and when you download iTunes 11.4 from that page, the .dmg file you get is indeed the "iTunes 11.4++" version!  #SmallVictories

Since Apple has silently fixed iTunes, and the original issue no longer exists, it seems this thread is now irrelevant.  Best to just ignore the spammers who are attempting to sell $39.95 software to fix a non-existent problem.  Perhaps if an administrator pays attention, this thread can be closed.

That's all great except all the links that did take you to the correct 11.4 update have now been changed to the 12.0.1 update. That leaves those of us still experiencing fall-out out of luck. I'm still running Snow Leopard and I have no idea if 12.0.1 is compatible or not. I don't want to introduce a new problem to the mix

The Support Knowledge Base article links right above your post take you to the correct "11.4++" version for Snow Leopard.

OK, let's take it from the top, shall we?

iTunes 11.4 is the last version of iTunes for Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (and below), including Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (and below).

iTunes 12.0.1 requires Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 or newer.  It is not compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.x.  Period.

Apple released two versions of iTunes 11.4; the original (on Sept. 9th 2014) which had bugs, and a 'fixed' version (on/around Sept. 23rd 2014) which I refer to as "iTunes 11.4++" that fixed the bugs.

The "11.4++" version is what you get if you go to the Knowledge Base article page.

The "11.4++" version fixes most of the issues that people were experiencing; with one notable exception - the "AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext" kernel extension was mistakingly added in as a 64-bit-only .kext, so things like USB Tethering are broken on 32-bit Macs as the extension is disabled on them.

    All clear now?

First of all guys, we should all be thanking cwa2 since he is so freaking awesome.  His solution TOTALLY works.  I've simplified it even further for anyone who still has this annoying problem.

    1. Get iTunes 11.3.1 installer (dmg file) here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/cu44bb0te62b7p4/iTunes11.3.1.dmg
    2. Uninstall the current version of iTunes you have and delete it.
    3. BEFORE YOU INSTALL 11.3.1 DELETE ALL THESE FILES AND FOLDERS (you can press "shift" + "command" + "G" to reach these locations):
    /Library/Frameworks/iTunesLibrary.framework
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library/MobileDevices.bun dle
    /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMobileDevice.kext
    /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/AirTrafficHost.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreFP.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DeviceLink.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iTunesAccess.framework
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework

         4. After they're all deleted, I recommend restarting to clean everything out

         5. Install 11.3.1

         6. Enjoy!!! You should now be able to sync your phones with iTunes

         7. DO NOT UPDATE AGAIN TO THE NEWEST VERSION OF ITUNES!!!

Thanks again for cwa2 for making this possible, you rock!!!
