Good orchestral sound samples for Logic pro x

I have tried to do a little bit of web research into these libraries. there seem to be a lot. Loads of packages from east west quantum leap. Native instruments, Symphobia, Vienna Symphonic Library. Project-sam orchestral essentials and lots more. It all seems a bit of a jungle. I would hope to get a package with most of the orchestral essentials, strings, horns, choir, percussion and hopefully a good acoustic piano. It may though be best in the end to buy individual instrument libraries (one for strings, another for horns etc) again advice would be welcome.

Even when we have got a library, are they easy to install? does one have to register them online (with a serial number or something) I suppose they can’t be bought second hand. I guess another issue is how much disc space they are going to use

We are still at a fairly amateur stage with Logic-pro so we would hope to buy something that is quite user friendly. but we want instruments that sound top notch. Many thanks

Mark

Without any idea of your budget.. it's really hard to offer advice/suggestions....

However, as a general tip:

Buy Kontakt either as a stand alone app or as part of the Komplete package...

Then you will have access to all the various different 3rd party Kontakt Libraries that you could purchase..

Here are just three examples....

LASS - One of the best String Libs out there...

Spitfire's amazing Orchestral collections....

Cinesamples orchestral stuff....

...and so on.... (Including Project Sam that you mentioned)

However, while Kontakt itself is reasonably priced...none of the high quality 3rd party libraries are cheap as you will discover.. hence my question about your budget....

Additional:

Personally I have found the EastWest Play range very good but on a Mac.. not very efficient and the play engine tends to be a little unstable... so I recommend using Kontakt libs over Play stuff... when using Macs...

VSL is excellent.. but not cheap at all..... and its dedicated to their own samples and not 3rd party stuff...

Again it's down to your budget.... and your needs.. and what sounds good to you.

Thank you, for your response again. Actually I also don’t really know what my budget is. I would hope not to have to go above USD.1000

It depends on what the situation dictates we have to do. I just saw a library of spitfire’s—strings only—for £1,700 ouch!

In a bit of a rush and will be away until Tues. Will do more research later. Thanks very much for your attention Art of Sound.

You are welcome 🙂

Yes, really good libraries tend not to be cheap.....

However, for that sort of budget... A couple of my clients have bought Kontakt 5 with it's own 'built in' library and then in addition bought the Garritan Personal Orchestra.... and Instant Orchestra.... and are very happy with what that combo allows them to do...

Have a listen to the Garritan Demos and see if that suits your needs and budget better....
