I trust, you told Apple that. Did Apple Support remove the purchase for you?

why? You need an iTunes account to download something from iTunes. And at the keynote Tim Cook said that everybody with an iTunes account will get this "gift".

But you need an account that was active before the event. If you create one now, just to get the gift, it would not help.

What if I don't need this gift!

I deleted my iCloud account and hid the app access in my settings and the album still is stuck on my phone. Guess I will be buying my next device from another company because there simply is no way I am going to tolerate not being able to manage my devices as I see fit after forking out hundreds of dollars to own a device. Sooo... Blackberry or Samsung who suggests which??

You can easily remove the album from your devices like it never existed. Apple created a special website for those who wish to do so. If you had taken the time to do a simple search you would have figured this out.

    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201396

Follow the instructions to remove the U2 album. Deleting your iCloud account does nothing. Re-syncing your music after deleting the album would also help. Your tinkering may cause you trouble too. If you should decide you do want  the album in the future you will have to purchase it at full price.

And by the way, nobody gives a hoot about what you tolerate or do. We couldn’t care less if you sold your Apple gear and bought something inferior. Your attitude here is abominable. Your skills as a user are also in question if you couldn’t figure this out for yourself.

Yes, I totally agree, we should have had the choice to refuse this download, or at the very least, be able to EASILY delete it if nothing  else.  It is like when you are trying to get rid of unwanted downloads and harmful viruses from your computer and the uninstall button isn't working for that download.  I smell something fishy.

Yes, and I'd like to add, How do we know it isnt a form of spyware, of we can't get rid of it?

Sorry, but I can't be the only one with this problem.  Whatever Apple came up with for those who don't want this album, does ont even work!!!

Get a clue. This was a year ago and was dealt with then. The instructions work. That you can’t follow instructions isn’t Apple’s problem.
