Q: How to safely delete music

Hi

I have the iPhone5C. I'm an iTunes user and I have iCloud.

I have a ton of music bought from iTunes and saved to my iPhone. My iPhone is maxed-out and I can't download any more stuff. I want to retire some music I bought from iTunes but I don't want to delete them permanently.  Is there a safe way to delete music from my iPhone but not delete them permanently from iTunes and iCloud?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I never had a chance to read the manuals. Now I'm in a serious bind and need quick answers.

Thanks so much!

Put it on another device, click here, and follow the instructions. The copy in the iCloud won't be deleted but shouldn't be considered as a substitute for a backup.

    Thanks Niel.

I'm an Apple newbie. I run Windows and had Android phones. I'll start up iTunes on my Windows PC, connect the iPhone, plug in an external HD, and then fish around the software for something that allows me to copy music to another device.

I followed your link. That's all I needed to know - that I can retire music files from the iPhone but not permanently delete them. That's a worry off my mind!

If anyone has other solutions or ideas for me, I'm open to them. Thanks in advance.

Follow the instructions here or here, right-click any song in iTunes, show it in the Windows Explorer, navigate up the folder structure, and then drag-copy the entire iTunes library to an external drive.
