Go step by step and test.

1. If adware is installed without your knowledge,

download AdMedic by clicking the link “Download AdMedic now” from here

http://www.thesafemac.com/admedic/ .

Install it and run it by clicking “Scan for Adware” button to remove adware.

Once done scanning and removing the adware, quit the app by clicking AdMedic in the menubar

and selecting “Quit AdMedic”.

2. Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Turn those off and try Safari.

3. Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and other website data:

Press “Remove all website data” button.

I had the same issue—after downloading the app the others recommended, and though it found a couple other things, the mysterious CrushArcade business was still sticking around...

Finally figured this out in regard to Chrome (as opposed to the above for Safari). Go to Menu > Chrome > Preferences: Extensions. Lo! There was the malware. Hit the "trash" icon, and get rid of the sucker.
