Hi, I just got a Mac and am struggling to find a good and trustable youtube downloader to install I don't want to get any thing that will give my laptop a virus and or pop up with loads of adverts, any suggestions? thank you 🙂

You can't trust any YouTube downloader.
YouTube posters own the rights to their content, or at least they're assumed to. If they give permission for it to be downloaded, there will be a "Download" link on the YT page. If they don't give permission, downloading the content is copyright infringement. Any software that helps you to do something unlawful is inherently untrustworthy. If you make a habit of using such software, you're practically certain to be infected with malware, no matter what else you do.
