MacBook keyboard fault

Hi, my Macbook's keyboard (mid 2010), suddenly typing strange characters and I can't go into preferences (administrator) mode to change to default. Has anyone else experienced this and what is the solution? Please help.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.4), 45042M03F5W
