Using the enter key to break the line

Numbers 3.2, any way to edit this keyboard shortcut? It's not convenient to use alt-enter all the time? Such a simple thing to ask, I can't actually believe this app does not have this feature.

I've looked but am having trouble finding a preference or some other setting in Numbers 2 (the previous version) that allows remapping this key.

You can easily modify keyboard shortcuts for Numbers 3 for any menu pick just the way you can for any other OS X application via System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts.

But what you are discussing here is not a keyboard shortcut. It's entering a specific character into text, not executing a command. Remapping your keyboard may do the trick for you. Have you tried?

Thanks, Jeff. I remembered something about altering the "moves to next cell" behavior, but couldn't find it in the old interface, probably because I never used it. Option-return does fine for me to get a new line (or paragraph or whatever). I'm think (though I haven't tried it) that temporary key remapping when using Numbers 3 can do the trick for those who are entering a lot of multi-line or multi-paragraph text and feel it's essential just to be able to hit the return button.

That is an impressive table!

From the part that is visible in your screenshot, it seems you aren't doing calculations. As Jeff suggests, wouldn't Pages be better suited for this kind of data entry?

I don't have Pages but I do use OneNote, which is convenient for tables with a lot of formatted text in them.

I am indeed considering trying OneNote for my next project, but from a quick look, you can't add graphs there (the math plug-in is for windows only). It's keep more and more frustrating. I am a medical student and I really need to find a good, esthetic, functional way to organise my data for the exam. I need a tool that deals well with text, photos, big tables, graphs, links, etc.
