Sep 17, 2014 3:16 PM in response to Keylorby akjeff,I'm not convinced this is a Carrier version issue. I think someone flipped the switch in the A1428 update turning the feature off. I'm curious if any of the users on Orange in the UK are having the same problem with the iPhone 5.

Sep 17, 2014 3:58 PM in response to iSpendby Terry Otness,I'm using an iPhone 5 and was using the iPhone 5's term as the possessive, which may have been seen as the 4S. Didn't understand that the iPhone 4 worked with this. Has anyone experienced this with the 4S?

Sep 17, 2014 3:59 PM in response to iSpendby nevadafrenchy,No. Just now got off video chat with a colleague after reading this thread. I have an iPhone 5 and he has an iPhone 5c. Both updated to iOS 8 at the same time, both have the carrier update. We went through the exact same process, together. Conclusion: his iPhone 5c has wifi calling available, my iPhone 5 does not.
Reason: no clue.

I believe by now, this is pretty much evident that anything under the 5c; such as the 5, 4S, etc...Wi-Fi Calling will NOT be supported/upgraded by Apple.

Sep 17, 2014 5:04 PM in response to iSpendby akjeff,There are lots of questions going on about this here at Apple and over at TMO. I wouldn't give up yet until we hear from one of those two parties.

Sep 17, 2014 5:48 PM in response to Winskiby enadil,After hearing that some iPhone 5's have wifi calling enabled and some do not I have a theory. I believe that Apple is disabling wifi calling on certain models of iPhone 5's. I purchased my iPhone 5 unlocked before T-Mobile officially offered the iPhone. Apple probably classifies my iPhone as an AT&T iPhone 5 and thus has its wifi disabled. If I recall correctly, a new iPhone 5 model was released to better support T-Mobile's cellular bands as soon as they were announced as supporting it. In summary, the future is bleak.

Sep 17, 2014 8:58 PM in response to enadilby Ranger375,The iPhone 5 does not have wifi calling. If you have a 5 and now have wifi calling, I want to talk to you and see what you are doing differently. As I said earlier, two different T-Mobile advance techs said a bulletin was put out (I was on the phone with the first guy when it was put out), that it will only be available for 5c,5s and above. The 5 is left out of the wifi calling feature of iOS 8. The carrier update was 17.1, and pushed to all iPhones to go with the iOS 8 update. My wife and I both have the iPhone 5 and got the carrier update along with iOS 8, and we don't have wifi calling, yet my son, who has the 5c, does have wife calling now.
Again, this blindsided even T-Mobile, as they had been told the whole time leading up to the update that all iPhones that could get the iOS 8 update would have wifi calling. They were told that the 4s could have some problems and so when the public release comes out, it might not be included, but that 5 and up would get the wifi calling feature for sure. T-Mobile was scrambling this afternoon and basically are clueless why the 5 was not included, only had a bulletin from Apple saying it would not be. Even both techs agreed with me that it made no sense that the 5c had it and the 5 did not, since they are the same phone when it comes to the hardware. If the 5c can support wifi calling, then the 5 should also. As far as I know, there is nothing special about the plastic of the 5c that would make it more capable to handle wifi calling. Go figure.

Sep 18, 2014 12:08 AM in response to Ranger375by dustin.burleson,Yeah. I also talked to TMobile today. They were still under the impression at the time that I would be getting it on my 5. Looks like I'll be calling AppleCare tomorrow to talk to them. At least make them aware that this is a huge issue to customers.:/

Sep 18, 2014 5:55 AM in response to Ranger375by ssisman,Not TMobile's doing. From IOS 8 User guide below;
" Call over Wi-Fi. (Not available in all areas. iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, or later.) To route calls over
Wi-Fi, go to Settings > Phone, then turn on Wi-Fi Calling. On iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, if the
Wi-Fi connection is lost, calls switch automatically to your carrier’s cellular network using VoLTE
(Voice over LTE), if available. (VoLTE calls also switch to Wi-Fi when a Wi-Fi connection becomes
available.) On earlier models, a call is dropped if you lose the Wi-Fi connection. Contact your
carrier for feature availability."
Apple just ignored IPhone 5.

Apple just ignored iPhone 5. Apple needs to re-address this.

Sep 18, 2014 12:08 PM in response to Winskiby pod_,As of right now, iPhone 5 A1428 with serial number ending in FH19 and T-Mobile US Carrier Update 17.1 running iOS 8 build 12A365 does not support Wi-Fi calling.
