ATT wants to charge me $30 a month to upgrade my 5S to a 6. This must be costing Apple $millions in new sales. Has anyone else ever heard of this?

I just discovered that AT&T wants to charge me an extra $25 a month if I get an Iphone 6 and pay $199 and sign up for a new 2 year contract. My present contract expires today and I expected that I could pay $199 for an Iphone 6 (Plus $40 upgrade fee) and sign up for a new 2 year contract but then I discovered that they will charge $25 extra a month on my shared data plan because I'm on a new contract.. I'm so disappointed with AT&T that I will seriously consider switching to T Mobile.

ATT can and will charge whatever they can collect, making money is their job. You can elect not to deal with them and go with someone else. If enough people do that maybe ATT will re-evaluate their pricing.

Tom,

You must have missed that little got ya when you moved to the new mobile share plan. It was typed about all over the net. These plans are priced to just charge for voice/data/text and not padded to cover the cost of subsidized phones. And as you can see, AT&T adds a steep penalty if you want a subsidized phone with this plan. You may be able to switch back to your original voice and data plans but maybe not. You'll have to talk to AT&T about that.

Why no simply use the AT&T Next program, pay $32 month for the iPhone and save $25 a month for using your own iPhone (that you just purchased with the Next program)?

You won’t pay $199 up front and you save $25 a month on your bill.

and you still can.

Your bill shouldn’t change much, if any. You aren’t paying an extra $25. You are paying regular price.

Users who bring their own phone do get a $25 discount.

You paid $199 and then the extra $25 month on top of that. This $25 was not itemized out. It was simply part of your plan.

Users who brought their own phone got ripped off because they didn't get the $25 a month discount. They still had to pay this extra hidden $25 a month.
