Q: airdrop has never worked for me

I have 4 macs. Newest iMac 27" and 21", and older 24" and an Mini Server. I have 2 iPads and iPhone. I have never, ever been able to get AirDrop to work. Is it me? Or is it buggy or picky?

AirDrop has some system requirements that it is not clear your devices meet. Check out the content of this article for your iOS devices -

Right now, Airdrop only works from Mac OS to Mac OS and from iOS to iOS, so it's never worked between a computer and an iPad or iPhone. That is supposed to change at some point. As for your Macs, it depends on the model/year.
