iPhone is available for purchase and activation through Apple, wireless carriers, and authorized resellers (not all options are available in all countries or locations). In most countries, the place of purchase will verify that you have an account with the carrier, and then give you instructions on how to activate your iPhone. Hi,

I'm in Sri Lanka and I bought 2 sim free iPhone 6s while I was in Japan last month.

And Now I'm in Sri Lanka using both iPhones on Sri Lankan carriers.
And of course LTE works fine as well. So yes You will be able to use the iPhone 6 in India as long as it is sim free.

The model I bought is the A1586 which has the widest LTE range of all iPhone 6s. From my own experience, Nothing to be worried.

Although I have to note that If you buy an iPhone from Japan, you will not be able to silent the camera shutter sound. It has been enabled at all times even if your phone is in silent mode, according to a law from Japanese government. That is the only downside of the Japanese iPhone 6, apart from that, everything works flawlessly as long as you buy the sim free one.

I'm not sure the Sim free one works in Brazil or not. Best thing is to get to know the LTE bands in Brazil and ask from an Apple Genius whether the iPhone 6 in Japan supports that LTE band. In my case Sri Lankan Carriers use the LTE band 3 which is supported on all iPhone 6 Models. But my bet is that it should work in Brazil since the sim free iPhone 6 in Japan is the model A1586 which has the most LTE bands in a single smartphone.

And about the reservation, you can reserve a phone from https://reserve.cdn-apple.com/JP/ja_JP/reserve/iPhone/availability . That's how I got my iPhones. Make sure you select a store which is near by. I was in Tokyo, so Ginza, Ometosando and Shibuya stores were closest.

I know that reservation process is a pain in the a**. But that's how you can get it. I tried about 3/4 consecutive days before getting my hands on the iPhones. You have to try on Midnight,(00:00 AM Japan Time) otherwise it's all gonna be out of order in 5 minutes. I was refreshing the page at midnight every second, and once the page comes online you have to rush your way in to it. You have to be very fast and you have to try at least for about 5 days. My advice is to try Ginza store first since it has the largest stock in Japan. And they have a pattern of distributing iPhones, like Ginza store gets mostly 16 GB iPhones one day, and shibuya Store gets Most of the 64 GBs. Next day Ginza gets 64GB and Shibuya gets 16GBs. So you have to try a couple of days on All Apple stores and be sharp about timing. (But try Ginza first). Good luck. One of the days you gonna get lucky. So keep trying.

If that's not working out, you can buy one from online shop, which will take about 7-10 working days for them to deliver.

And of course, Tourists can get iPhones tax free (8%), you have to provide your passport and Visa, They'll do the rest.

Good luck. Enjoy Tokyo!

They will send you an email to the email address which you used to login to the site when you made the reservation. And always go to the Apple Store before your time slot. Ex : if you chose time slot 10.00 AM - 11.00 AM be there at around 9.45 AM. Glad you made it.

@jmtee1308 I'm not sure about tax reduction when you are buying it through online shop. Sorry, I haven't tried it. But I think they have a form at airport customs which you can fill and get The tax payback. But not sure. Best is to ask from an Apple Store.

I have called the Japanese apple online store twice, the first time, the representative told me that the iphone 6 will be available for purchase in few days, so keep checking our website, in the second time, another representative answered my call, she told me that apple decided to stop selling the sim free iphone6 and 6 plus in japan, only iphone 5s is now available. i don't know which one to beleive.....

No one knows the reason currently, not even the Japanese. Most news sources are suspecting it's due to the disgustingly low yen right now and to prevent themselves from losing so much money they're deciding on a new price to launch it at. Also, the law was passed for unlocking phones in Japan. From May of next year, most people, if out of plan, will be able to get their phones unlocked for free or for a small fee.
