You will need to have access to a Wifi router to connect remotely, either find free and open or freely available (Subscription service and password protected) en-route , or get your parents to get you a mobile phone with bluetooth or Wifi tethering functionality.
Or consider a portable WiFi modem such as a MiFi , Huawei or similar device - basically these are a headless mobile device with a phone sim card and connect to the cell network then convert that signal into a WiFi frequency that your iPod and typically up to 5 other Wifi enabled devices nearby can connect to (provided you give them passed access)
These work just about anywhere a mobile signal can be found , however can be slow and you also still have a phone bill to pay !
Search for Novotel Mifi or Huawei E series for details and suppliers in your location - They cost about £40/$75/€75 plus
