Q: only half of the trackpad is working on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro model A1278 that only half of the trackpad works.  First, the Mac cursor was acting erratically.  So, I tried replacing the trackpad and about 2 months later, same thing happened again.  I read some other forums that said to replace the battery because it could be that it is starting to bulge out.  So, I replaced the battery and what is happening now is that only the right half of the trackpad is working (not the greatest but still is).  I also turned off the wifi, Bluetooth, tried to boot in safe mode with all the same results, no change at all.  Please someone help with this, I need it for work!

Thank You,

Andy

    Hello andy key west,

After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning trackpad issues:

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012): Trackpad may become unresponsive after MacBook Pro (Retina) Trackpad Update

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4297

    Symptoms

The trackpad on your MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) may become unresponsive after applying the MacBook Pro (Retina) Trackpad Update. This can occur when the update is interrupted by the computer going to sleep.

    Resolution

If you have access to an external mouse or other pointing device, connect it and reapply the update. Do not disconnect the power or allow the computer to sleep during the update process.

Follow these steps if you do not have access to an external mouse or other pointing device:

    1. Press Control-Fn-F7 (this enables all commands via the keyboard).
    2. If the Updater application is on the screen, go to step 7. If the Updater application is not on the screen, continue to step 3.
    3. Press Command-Tab to go to the Finder.
    4. Press Command-Shift-U to open the the Utilities folder.
    5. Use the arrow keys to navigate to "MacBook Pro Trackpad Update" so it is highlighted.
    6. Press Command-O to start the application.
    7. The word "Update" should be highlighted in blue. If it is not, press the Tab key to highlight it.
    8. Press the space bar to initiate the update.
    9. Press Return to confirm OK.
    10. Enter your administrator password, then press return.
    11. Allow the update to finish. Do not unplug the computer, let it sleep, or interrupt the update while it is in progress.
    12. The word "Updated" with a green checkmark appears in the progress box when the update is complete. The trackpad should now be functional.

I do not have a "MacBook Pro Update" utility.  I tried to find it and search for it in the search bar but nothing comes up.

    Thank You,

    Andy

P.S. I also tried to download the update found on this site: MacBook Pro (Retina) Trackpad Update 1.0 and the installer said "this is not supported."
